Foods have more to do with overall health than anything else. A healthy body will produce a healthy sound. A well nurtured body will produce a well nurtured sound. There are several myths surrounding food and vocal health. However, just as certain foods agree with certain bodies and disagree with some, so do certain foods for the voice, especially when the overall body is out of balance, sick or when the immune system is down.

In case of a cough , sore throat, cold, blocked sinus etc, conditions that are directly involved with sound production, yes there are certain foods, medications and herbs that can help. There are even some “magic” quick fixes that can temporarily help out,  the herbal teas, the complex concoctions, the drops and syrups and some vocal techniques. Other than that, there are no proven be all and end all rules for foods that singers in general should avoid.

Hydration is one of the most beneficial things you can do for both your voice and your body. A healthy lifestyle, good healthy food, exercise, lots of water, practice, vocal rest, adequate sleep, correct use of the voice and a  good vocal coach is the most effective diet for a singer. It is the singer’s Magic Diet.
