I’m so self-conscious about my voice texture and my singing. How can I feel less insecure about my voice type? I just don’t like my voice! Will it sound the same forever? I want to sound like my favorite singer!

Have you heard mimics altering their voice completely to sound like someone else ? They are able to sing and talk in not just one voice but numerous voices! That too with the exact vocal traits of the person they are imitating. It’s mind boggling, isn’t it? We get entertained and applaud them  but we rarely think about how on earth do they do this!

The human body is an incredible piece of machinery. It can transform itself completely. We have all seen incredible physical transformations in our immediate world. People have created versions of themselves that our almost unrecognizable sometimes!

The voice is no different. It can be molded and trained for a complete transformation, sometimes almost unrecognizable.

Your voice is unique just like your body. You can cultivate it and hone it and add new features to it. You can expand its horizons just by training it. You can reinvent your voice completely. We tend to be judgmental about our voices but till the time we don’t explore the potential of our voice we cannot really allow ourselves to be insecure about it. We may want to sound like someone we idolize but if we think deeply about it, what we really idolize in that person is the effect this particular voice has on us. If we break this thought up further into smaller components,  then we will find that it is very specific aspects of that voice appeal to us. These specific aspects can be developed through training. The goal therefore is, cultivating the culture of our individual voice.

The most important thing to remember is that the voice is like a blank canvas ready to be painted.

YOUR VOICE is the canvas that will become a piece of art! YOU are the artist and your vocal coach is your magic painting brush. Together you will create a painting that will define YOUR personality, YOUR aspirations, YOUR sensibilities and YOUR desires.  The painting will be complex, detailed and intricate with endless possibilities of hues, even with a limited amount of available colors.

So, to summarize the answer to  the question we started with :

Till you paint that canvas, you cannot judge it!
